How much do new windows and doors cost in the UK?

New windows cost about £400 to £900 each fitted for uPVC double glazing, so replacing every window in a typical three-bed house comes to roughly £4,000 to £8,000. Doors are priced separately: a uPVC or composite front door, French doors or bi-folds each have their own range. The material, the size and how many you replace at once drive the price. The table below sets out what each costs, supplied and fitted.

What changes the price of windows and doors

Material is the biggest lever. uPVC is the cheapest and most common; aluminium and timber cost more for a slimmer or more traditional look. On doors, a uPVC door is the budget option, a composite door costs more but is more secure and better insulated, and bi-fold or French doors are priced by the number of panes.

Size, the glazing spec (double or triple, acoustic or low-E), and the number of openings you do at once all matter, and most firms price a whole-house job more keenly per window than a single replacement. Fitting is a big part of the cost, so buying the units yourself rarely saves as much as it looks.

Common questions

How much does it cost to replace all the windows in a house?

Replacing every window in a typical three-bed house with uPVC double glazing costs roughly £4,000 to £8,000, or about £400 to £900 per window fitted. Aluminium and timber cost more, and a larger house or bay windows push it up. Doing the whole house at once is usually cheaper per window than one at a time.

Are composite doors worth the extra over uPVC?

A composite door costs more than a uPVC one but is thicker, more secure and better insulated, and it holds its finish longer. If the door is a main entrance or south-facing, most people find the extra worth it; for a back or side door that gets less use and weather, uPVC is fine. Compare the two in the door guides above.

Do new windows add value to a house?

New windows help a sale more than they add a pound-for-pound return: they make a home look cared-for and improve the EPC rating and warmth, which buyers notice. Treat them as maintenance and comfort that also helps a sale, rather than an investment that pays back its full cost.
