What this can and cannot tell you

• It compares your number against our researched guide range for the job as you set it up, adjusted for your region. It is a sanity check, not a valuation.
• A quote above the range is usually scope, not overcharging. Access, spec, preparation and structural work all push a real price above a guide figure.
• A quote below the range is worth checking line by line. VAT, waste removal and making good are the items most often left out.
• We publish how we price and every figure is dated. These are guide prices for a typical job, not a survey of real quotes, so we cannot tell you what percentile yours is in and will not pretend to.
• Jobs charged by the hour, the day or the item are left out of the list on purpose. Comparing a job total against an hourly rate would give you a confident answer that happens to be nonsense. For those, the guide page has the rate.
