Stephen Evans founded Costwise and researches, writes and reviews every cost figure on the site. The aim is simple: give people an honest UK price before they ever speak to a salesperson.

What I do here

I built Costwise because most "get a quote" sites hide the price until they have your details. I wanted the opposite: a clear from, typical and up-to figure for each job, researched from real UK pricing, dated, and only changed when the numbers actually move. Every guide, calculator and data study on the site is mine, and I review the figures on a regular cycle. Read how we price for the exact method.

What I am, and what I am not

My work here is research and publishing: finding what a job actually costs across the UK, checking it, dating it, and saying plainly how wide the range is. I am not a gas engineer, an electrician, a surveyor or a builder, and I do not pretend to be. That is why a guide about work you must not do yourself sends you to the official register rather than to me, and why the figures are framed as a range to judge a quote against rather than a price I am offering. If you want to see the method and its limits before you trust a number, it is all on how we price.

How I keep it honest

I do not fabricate reviews, ratings or statistics, and installer or affiliate partners never influence the numbers. Costwise only earns if you choose to ask for quotes, use a marked affiliate link or buy its optional project pack, which is set out in full on the disclosure page. If you ever spot a figure that looks off, I would genuinely like to know.
