How much does boiler relocation cost in the UK?

A Boiler relocation costs £350 to £1,400 in the UK, typically around £700 to relocate the boiler. What moves the price most is how far the boiler moves and how long the new pipe runs are, so a simpler job sits near the bottom of that range and a larger or higher-spec one near the top. Prices reviewed June 2026.

Moving an existing boiler is priced per job and mostly reflects the new pipe and flue runs. A short move typically costs £350 to £700, while a move across the house or into a loft or garage runs £900 to £1,400.

What changes the price?

The things that move Boiler relocation prices most:

01

How far the boiler moves and how long the new pipe runs are

02

Whether a fresh flue hole has to be cut through brick or rendered wall

03

Combi versus system boiler, as a system move has more pipe connections

04

Whether the gas supply pipe needs upsizing to feed the new position

05

Access at the new spot and whether scaffolding is needed for a high flue

06

Making good and redecoration at the old and new positions

How the price is built up

The base cost is a Gas Safe engineer disconnecting and reconnecting the boiler, and the shortest same-wall moves sit near the £350 floor because the flue and pipe runs barely change. Costs build up as the boiler moves further from where it started: a new flue hole has to be cut, the gas, water and condensate pipes are re-run over a longer distance, and the gas supply pipe may need upsizing so it still delivers enough over the extra length. Moving into a loft or garage means the longest runs and sometimes scaffolding for a high flue, while making good and redecorating the old and new positions add on top, pushing a fuller job towards £1,400. On a typical relocation most of the cost is the engineer's time. Parts such as the flue kit, copper pipe, fittings and condensate usually come to £80 to £200, with the rest being 1 to 2 days of Gas Safe labour, so the job is heavily weighted towards labour.

Common questions

How much does it cost to move a boiler?

Moving an existing boiler usually costs £350 to £1,400 depending on how far it goes and how much new pipework and flue is needed. A short move on the same wall or within the same room sits near £350 to £600, a move to a nearby room around £600 to £950, and a move across the house or into a loft or garage £950 to £1,400. This is for relocating a boiler that stays in use; if you are also fitting a new boiler, the relocation adds to that installation rather than being a separate job.

What changes the price of relocating a boiler?

The main driver is distance, because the further the boiler moves the longer the new gas, water and condensate runs and the more labour involved. Cutting a fresh flue hole through a brick or rendered wall, upsizing the gas supply pipe so it still delivers enough gas over a longer run, and awkward access all add cost. A system boiler move costs a little more than a combi because there are more pipe connections. Making good the old position, and any scaffolding needed for a high-level flue, sit on top.

Is it worth moving the boiler or fitting a new one in the new spot?

If your boiler is only a few years old and working well, relocating it at £350 to £1,400 is usually cheaper than scrapping it for a new unit, which runs £1,800 to £4,500 supplied and fitted. But if the boiler is over 10 years old or unreliable, it often makes more sense to buy a new one and have it fitted straight into the new position, since the relocation labour is much the same either way and you get a fresh warranty. The deciding factor is the age and condition of the boiler you already have.

Can I move a boiler myself?

No. Disconnecting, moving and reconnecting a gas boiler must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer by law, and doing it yourself is dangerous and would void the warranty and your insurance. The gas, flue and condensate work all have to be tested and recommissioned. The only part you can do yourself is any decorating to make good the old position once the engineer has finished.

How long does it take to relocate a boiler?

A short move is usually a one-day job. A longer move with new pipe runs, a fresh flue route and making good typically takes two days, and can stretch further if scaffolding is needed or the new position is hard to reach. The boiler is off for the duration, so expect to be without heating and hot water for a day or two while the work is done.

Does moving a boiler affect the warranty?

As long as a Gas Safe registered engineer carries out the relocation and records it correctly, your manufacturer warranty stays intact. Problems only arise if unregistered work is done or the annual service is missed. Tell your installer the boiler is under warranty so they follow the manufacturer's requirements, and keep the paperwork for the move alongside your service records.
